Panerai Luminor Luna Rossa 2025: A Bold Duo Inspired by the High Seas

As the Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli team gears up for a new campaign in the America’s Cup, Panerai introduces two fresh references under the Luminor Luna Rossa banner: the Luminor Chrono Flyback Luna Rossa PAM01654, and the Luminor Luna Rossa PAM01653. Designed for performance and visual impact, these watches fuse nautical identity and Italian precision in a way that speaks directly to fans of modern tool watches.

A Watchmaker Anchored in Adventure

Panerai’s long-standing collaboration with the Luna Rossa sailing team is more than a sponsorship — it’s a shared philosophy of resilience, innovation, and style. Since 2017, the brand has drawn on its military heritage and marine legacy to craft watches that celebrate both competition and craftsmanship. The Luminor collection, with its signature crown-lock device and cushion-shaped case, remains at the core of this identity. These two new Luna Rossa editions reinforce Panerai’s commitment to creating timepieces tailored for high-performance environments, while retaining an instantly recognizable aesthetic.

Titanium Strength, Steel Durability, Luna Rossa Spirit

The PAM01654 Chronograph is housed in a lightweight 44mm titanium case, chosen for its strength-to-weight ratio and corrosion resistance — crucial in nautical contexts. It features the automatic P.9100 calibre, offering a flyback chronograph with central seconds and a 12-hour totalizer. Operating at 28,800 vibrations per hour, it delivers a robust 72-hour power reserve, ensuring reliability over extended use.

In contrast, the PAM01653 keeps things simple with a 44mm AISI 316L stainless steel case and the hand-wound P.6000 calibre. Also boasting a 3-day power reserve, it operates at a more classic 21,600 vph and includes a stop-seconds mechanism for precise time-setting. Both models offer 100 meters of water resistance and come with a bi-material strap combining black rubber and grey textile, highlighted by a red Luna Rossa stripe. A second black rubber strap is included for more rugged settings.

Refined, Functional, and Ready for Open Water

What sets both models apart visually is the grey sandwich dial, a subtle and modern nod to technical sailing gear. The Super-LumiNova® X1 lume ensures optimal readability, while the printed indices and recessed markers preserve the Luminor’s minimalist yet functional design language. There are no flashy distractions — just a balanced, purpose-driven execution.

The Chrono Flyback PAM01654 will appeal to collectors looking for mechanical complexity with an athletic soul, while the PAM01653 is ideal for purists who value simplicity, legibility, and tactile connection with the movement. These watches aren’t loud — they’re focused, grounded in function, and quietly confident. Just like the Luna Rossa team they pay tribute to.

Our Verdict: Cohesive, Sporty, and Sharply Executed

With these new additions, Panerai continues to refine its formula: robust mechanics, clean design, and material innovation — all wrapped in a compelling narrative. The PAM01654 is priced at $16,400 USD and limited to 150 pieces worldwide, while the PAM01653 comes in at a more accessible $6,900 USD. Both are available now through Panerai boutiques and selected retailers.

These aren’t everyday watches — they’re for those who move with intent, who see craftsmanship not as ornament, but as equipment for life’s challenges. And honestly? That red stripe on the strap — it just feels fast. And for some of Panerai’s history, you should check out our article about the history of the California dial !
